The effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy on perfectionism and self-focused attention in infertile couples in Isfahan

Abstract

Background and Aim: The experience of infertility, which some experts call the infertility crisis, is associated with physical, economic, psychological and social stress and affects all aspects of a person's life. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy on perfectionism and self-focused infertility in infertile couples in Isfahan.  Methods: The present study was quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test design and control group. The statistical population of the present study is all infertile couples referring to Isfahan Infertility Center in mid-2021. Of these, 30 couples were selected voluntarily as a sample and randomly replaced in two groups including 15 couples, two experimental groups and a control group. The experimental group received a cognitive-behavioral therapy based on mindfulness for 8 sessions. The control group did not receive any intervention. The research instruments were Hill et al.'s Perfectionism Questionnaire (2004) and Woody, Chambels and Glass (1997) Focus Questionnaire. Results: The results showed that mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy is effective on perfectionism and self-focused attention (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it can be said that cognitive therapy based on mindfulness has a significant effect on reducing perfectionism and focused attention
