Comparison of the effectiveness of special schema therapy package with conventional schema therapy on sexual schemas and marital adjustment of women with vaginismus disorder

Abstract

Background and Aim: Formulation of special schema therapy behavioral intervention can provide a platform for the prevention and treatment of this common disorder by explaining the relationship between the dimensions of women's needs and problems and promoting their physical and psychological health through etiology. The first special treatment package for women with vaginismus can help strengthen the foundations of the family by improving personal and marital health and provide a basis for filling the knowledge gap regarding special treatment for women with vaginismus. Therefore, the present study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of special schema therapy package with conventional schema therapy on sexual schemas and marital adjustment of women with vaginismus disorder. Methods: The study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest, posttest and follow-up design with a control group. The sample consisted of 45 women with vaginismus referred to the gynecology clinic of Payambaran Hospital in Tehran who were selected by purposive sampling and randomly divided into two experimental groups and a control group (15 people in each group). The experimental groups underwent special schema therapy (10 sessions of 90 minutes) and conventional schema therapy (10 sessions of 90 minutes). Results: Findings showed that the variable of sexual schemas in the effect group within the group and in the interaction of time factor and group (three research groups) there is a significant difference (p <0.01). Also, there is a significant difference (p <0.01) in marital adjustment variable in the effect group within the group and in the interaction of time factor and group (three research groups).There is also a significant difference (p <0.01) in marital adjustment variable in the effect group within the group and in the interaction of time factor and group (three research groups).همچنین در متغیر سازگاری زناشویی در گروه اثر درون گروهی و در تعامل عامل زمان و گروه (سه گروه پژوهشی) تفاوت معناداری وجود دارد (01/0p<). Conclusion: The results showed that the new special schema therapy package can reduce sexual schemas and increase marital compatibility by identifying the needs of women with vaginismus.
