Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy and emotion-oriented therapy on the burden of caregivers of people with dementia. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test, post-test and follow-up plan with a control group. The statistical population of this research was selected from among the main caregivers (wife and daughter) of people with dementia who referred to Iran Dementia Association (located in Tehran) in 1402. From among them, 45 subjects were selected by targeted sampling and randomly replaced in three equal groups of 15 people (two experimental groups and one control group). Novak and Gast (1989) care burden was used to collect information. SPSS software and multivariate covariance analysis tests were used for data analysis. The results showed that both interventions based on acceptance and commitment and emotion-oriented therapy have created a significant difference in the post-test and follow-up stage on the burden of caregivers of people with dementia compared to the control group. The results show that the treatment based on acceptance and commitment has had a greater impact on the burden of caregivers of people with dementia than emotion-oriented treatment.
