The Role of Compassion-Focused Therapy in Treating Eating Disorders

This study aims to explore the role of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) in treating eating disorders, focusing on its impact on emotional healing, behavioral changes, cognitive shifts, and social and relational growth. The study employed a qualitative research design, recruiting 19 participants through purposive sampling. Participants were adults diagnosed with an eating disorder who had completed at least six sessions of CFT. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, which were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. Thematic saturation was achieved, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the participants' experiences and insights. The analysis revealed four main themes: emotional healing, behavioral changes, cognitive shifts, and social and relational growth. Participants reported significant improvements in self-compassion, emotional regulation, and reduced self-criticism. Behavioral changes included improved eating habits, reduction in harmful behaviors, and development of healthy routines. Cognitive shifts encompassed reductions in negative thoughts and perfectionism, along with enhanced self-efficacy. Social and relational growth were evidenced by better communication skills, improved relationship quality, and increased social confidence. These findings highlight the multifaceted benefits of CFT in addressing the complex dynamics of eating disorders. Compassion-Focused Therapy offers a promising complementary approach to traditional treatments for eating disorders. By enhancing self-compassion and emotional regulation, CFT addresses underlying emotional and cognitive factors, promoting long-term recovery. The study's findings suggest that integrating CFT into standard treatment programs could improve therapeutic outcomes for individuals with eating disorders. Future research should focus on larger, randomized controlled trials to further validate these findings and explore the mechanisms through which CFT exerts its effects.

Understanding the Dynamics of Integrative Body-Mind Training in Stress Management

This study aims to explore the dynamics of Integrative Body-Mind Training (IBMT) in stress management, focusing on participants' experiences, perceived benefits, and challenges. A qualitative research design was adopted, utilizing semi-structured interviews to gather in-depth data from 22 participants who had engaged in IBMT for a minimum of six months. Participants were selected through purposive sampling to ensure a diverse representation of backgrounds. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis, with theoretical saturation guiding the data collection process. The study aimed to capture the multifaceted experiences and perceptions of IBMT practitioners. The analysis revealed several key themes regarding the experiences of IBMT sessions, perceived benefits, and challenges. Participants reported significant stress reduction, improved emotional regulation, cognitive enhancements, better physical health, and strengthened interpersonal relationships. Key challenges included initial skepticism, time commitment, practice difficulties, and social and personal barriers. The findings align with previous research demonstrating the efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions in reducing stress and improving well-being, highlighting the holistic benefits and practical challenges associated with IBMT. Integrative Body-Mind Training offers a promising intervention for stress management, with participants experiencing substantial benefits across emotional, cognitive, physical, and social domains. However, several challenges need to be addressed to optimize its implementation. Future research should focus on larger, more diverse samples, and incorporate longitudinal and mixed-methods approaches to provide a more comprehensive understanding of IBMT's long-term effects. Practical recommendations include creating supportive practice environments, offering flexible program options, and addressing social and personal barriers to enhance engagement and effectiveness.

Patient Perspectives on the Utilization of Biofield Therapies in Cancer Pain Management

The objective of this study was to explore patient perspectives on the utilization of biofield therapies in cancer pain management. This qualitative research employed a purposive sampling method to recruit 23 participants from oncology clinics and support groups. Eligibility criteria included a diagnosis of cancer, experience of cancer-related pain, and prior use of biofield therapies. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, each lasting between 45 and 60 minutes, and were transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns and themes within the data, with coding performed manually to ensure deep engagement with the content. Member checking was conducted to ensure the credibility and trustworthiness of the findings. The study identified several key themes: improved pain control, emotional relief, enhanced physical comfort, improved quality of life, and holistic healing experiences. Participants reported significant reductions in pain intensity, increased pain tolerance, and quicker pain relief. Emotional benefits included reduced anxiety, improved mood, and a sense of calm. Enhanced physical comfort was noted, including better sleep, reduced muscle tension, and improved mobility. Quality of life improvements were reported through increased energy levels and enhanced daily functioning. Participants appreciated the holistic nature of biofield therapies, which complemented conventional treatments and provided a sense of empowerment. Challenges included access to trained practitioners, perceived efficacy concerns, integration with conventional care, and cultural and social barriers. Biofield therapies offer significant potential as complementary interventions in cancer pain management, providing physical, emotional, and holistic benefits. Addressing barriers such as access, awareness, and integration with conventional care is essential to enhance their utilization. Further research and efforts to improve education, access, and collaboration are crucial to realizing the full potential of biofield therapies in improving the quality of life for cancer patients.

Understanding the Dynamics of Psychodrama in Group Therapy Settings

This study aims to explore the dynamics of psychodrama in group therapy settings, focusing on role dynamics, emotional processes, and group interactions. The research seeks to understand how these elements contribute to the therapeutic outcomes for participants, enhancing their emotional and psychological well-being. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing a phenomenological approach to capture the lived experiences of individuals participating in psychodrama. The sample comprised 16 participants, including therapists and clients from various therapeutic settings. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and subthemes. Theoretical saturation was achieved, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics involved. The study identified three main themes: role dynamics, emotional processes, and group interactions. Under role dynamics, techniques like role reversal, doubling, and mirroring were found to enhance empathy, self-awareness, and emotional insight. Emotional processes such as catharsis, containment, spontaneity, deepening, and resistance were pivotal in the therapeutic impact of psychodrama. Group interactions, including cohesion, conflict resolution, feedback, participation, leader role, shared goals, and social learning, were essential for fostering a supportive and effective therapeutic environment. These findings align with previous studies, confirming the efficacy of psychodrama in reducing psychological distress and improving emotional well-being. Psychodrama in group therapy settings effectively enhances empathy, emotional expression, and psychological resilience among participants. The techniques of role reversal, doubling, and mirroring play a significant role in facilitating therapeutic outcomes. The study underscores the importance of group cohesion and mutual support in psychodrama, suggesting its broader applicability across various therapeutic and educational settings. Future research should focus on larger samples, longitudinal studies, and exploring psychodrama's integration with other therapeutic approaches to further validate and expand its efficacy.

A Qualitative Study on the Use of Therapeutic Writing in Processing Grief and Loss

This study aimed to explore the role of therapeutic writing in processing grief and loss, focusing on its impact on emotional expression, cognitive processing, and social connection. The study sought to understand the lived experiences of individuals who engaged in therapeutic writing as a means of coping with grief, providing insights into the mechanisms and benefits of this practice. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with 20 participants who had experienced significant loss and used therapeutic writing in their grieving process. Participants were selected through purposive sampling to ensure diverse perspectives. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, with themes identified related to emotional expression, cognitive processing, and social connection. Theoretical saturation was achieved, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon under study. The analysis revealed three main themes: emotional expression, cognitive processing, and social connection. Therapeutic writing facilitated emotional catharsis, helping participants identify and understand their emotions, reduce stress, and preserve memories of their loved ones. It also aided in making sense of their loss, reframing experiences, solving problems, and organizing thoughts. Socially, writing allowed participants to share their grief, feel understood, build legacies, form therapeutic alliances, and connect with communities. Participants reported significant emotional relief, cognitive clarity, and enhanced social support through the practice of therapeutic writing. Therapeutic writing offers a multifaceted approach to processing grief, providing emotional, cognitive, and social benefits. It serves as an effective tool for emotional expression, cognitive restructuring, and social connection, contributing to the overall well-being of individuals coping with loss. These findings highlight the potential of therapeutic writing in grief therapy, suggesting its integration into clinical practice to support bereaved individuals.

Exploring the Benefits of Somatic Experiencing in Treating Dissociative Disorders

This study aims to explore the benefits of Somatic Experiencing (SE) therapy in treating dissociative disorders, focusing on emotional regulation, physical awareness, interpersonal relationships, and trauma processing as reported by individuals who have undergone this therapy. The study employs a qualitative research design with semi-structured interviews to gather data from 22 participants diagnosed with dissociative disorders and who have undergone at least six months of SE therapy. Participants were selected through purposive sampling to ensure diverse representation. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns in participants' experiences. The analysis revealed four main themes: emotional regulation, physical awareness, interpersonal relationships, and trauma processing. Participants reported significant reductions in anxiety and panic attacks, improved mood stability, and enhanced emotional awareness. They also noted stronger connections to their bodies, alleviation of somatic symptoms, and improved body image. Interpersonal benefits included better communication, boundary setting, trust building, conflict resolution, and increased empathy. Trauma processing benefits involved improved memory integration, reduced flashbacks, and a stronger sense of safety. Somatic Experiencing therapy appears to offer substantial benefits for individuals with dissociative disorders by addressing both the physiological and psychological aspects of trauma. The findings suggest that SE can enhance emotional regulation, physical awareness, interpersonal relationships, and trauma processing. These results align with previous studies on the efficacy of body-oriented therapies for trauma recovery. Further research with larger, diverse samples and quantitative measures is recommended to validate these findings and explore the long-term effects of SE therapy.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation for Social Anxiety Disorder: Effects on Self-Determination and Collective Efficacy

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a psychosocial rehabilitation program in enhancing self-determination and collective efficacy among individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD). A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 30 participants from Tehran, diagnosed with SAD. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 15) or a control group (n = 15). The intervention group underwent an eight-session psychosocial rehabilitation program. Data were collected at baseline, post-intervention, and five-month follow-up using the Self-Determination Scale (SDS) and the Collective Efficacy Scale (CES). Statistical analyses included repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post-hoc tests, conducted using SPSS-27. The intervention group showed significant improvements in self-determination from baseline (M = 24.67, SD = 5.43) to post-intervention (M = 32.12, SD = 4.89) and follow-up (M = 31.78, SD = 5.12) compared to the control group, which showed no significant changes (baseline: M = 23.89, SD = 5.67; post-intervention: M = 24.34, SD = 5.56; follow-up: M = 24.12, SD = 5.23). Similarly, collective efficacy significantly improved in the intervention group from baseline (M = 38.45, SD = 6.78) to post-intervention (M = 45.32, SD = 5.67) and follow-up (M = 44.89, SD = 5.43), while the control group showed no significant changes (baseline: M = 37.89, SD = 6.34; post-intervention: M = 38.12, SD = 6.56; follow-up: M = 38.00, SD = 6.12). ANOVA results indicated significant main effects of group and time, and significant time × group interactions for both self-determination and collective efficacy (p < .001). The psychosocial rehabilitation program effectively enhanced self-determination and collective efficacy among individuals with SAD, with these improvements sustained over a five-month follow-up period. These findings support the incorporation of psychosocial rehabilitation into therapeutic practices for SAD to improve long-term outcomes.
