Abstract

Background and Aim: Youth marriage has become one of the main challenges of Iranian society nowadays. Young people avoid getting married for various reasons, and the phenomenon of delay in marriage age has become a problem. Accordingly, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of schema therapy on the fear of marriage among single boys. MethodsThe present research was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test with the control group. The sample was purposefully selected from single boys over 35 years old in Tehran. According to a public call to participate in the study, 28 single boys answered the questionnaire of fear of marriage Samiei, Yousefi, and Neshat Doost (2013). Among these participants, 24 boys were selected and randomly replaced in two schematic therapy groups, including the study group (12 boys) and the control group (12 boys). The study group received eight 90-minute sessions of Young, Klosko, and Weishaar's (2003) schema therapy intervention, and the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance. Results: The findings indicated the effect of schema therapy intervention on fear of marriage (F = 11.10, P = 0.003). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate evidence that schema therapy training is a suitable method to reduce fear of marriage.
