Abstract

Background and Aim:  The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of teaching positive attitude and optimism with cognitive-behavioral approach to quality of life and depression among adolescents. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with the experimental and control group and the pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population of the 3rd grade high school students was in Isfahan. Students who had more scores in depression scores and lower quality of life scores were selected according to the entrance criteria for a sample size of 30 and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 6 sessions of intervention in a group and control subjects were placed on the waiting list. Both groups responded to the quality of life of Vier and Sergun and Beck Depression before and after the experiment. To analyze the data, covariance analysis was used. Results:  The results showed that education of positive attitude and optimism skills with cognitive-behavioral approach significantly decreased depression. Also, teaching positive attitudes and optimism with cognitive-behavioral approach had a significant effect on quality of life in overall score as well as in general health dimensions , Physical function, role limitation due to physical, role limitation due to emotional, physical pain, social function, fatigue or vitality and mental health. Conclusion:  Based on the findings, it can be concluded that positive cognitive-behavioral education and optimism improve quality of life and lead to depression in students.
