Identifying the Dimensions and Components of the Inhibiting and Promoting Factors of the Strategic Plan for the Talent Identification of Adolescent Athletes

Abstract

Background and Aim: The strategic plan for the talent identification of athletes can play an important role in improving sports success. Therefore, the current research was carried out with the aim of identifying the dimensions and components of the inhibiting and promoting factors of the strategic plan for the talent identification of adolescent athletes. Methods: This study in terms of purpose was applied and in terms of implementation method was descriptive. The research population was experts and managers of the billiards federation, coaches of national and club billiards teams and heads of the talent identification committee, which according to the principle of theoretical saturation number of 13 people of them were selected as a sample with using the purposive sampling method. The research tool was semi-structured interview, which its validity was confirmed by triangulation method and its reliability by coefficient of agreement between two coders was obtained 0.86, and the data obtained from its implementation were analyzed by open, axial and selective coding method. Results: The results showed that the strategic plan for the talent identification of adolescent athletes for inhibiting factors were included 42 components in 8 dimensions of managerial barriers, contextual barriers, support and financial barriers, organizational barriers, media barriers, infrastructure barriers, structural barriers and cultural barriers, and for promoting factors were included 14 components in 2 dimensions of development platform factors and growth capacity factors. Finally, the pattern of the inhibiting and promoting factors of the strategic plan for the talent identification of adolescent athletes was drawn. Conclusion: The results of this study can have practical implications for the experts and planners of talent identification of athletes and considering the inhibiting and promoting factors take an effective step towards improving the talent identification of adolescent athletes.
